Meeting after delayed train journeys on a cold & bleak afternoon in late February, the now famous Radio 390 Ashtray is handed over

Radio 390 Senior Announcer John Ross-Barnard presents the Ashtray to Jonathan Shirley of "Outdoor Pursuits" Hemel Hempstead, winner of the on-line auction

With Jonathan Shirley & John Ross-Barnard alongside HMS Belfast on the River Thames, Tower Bridge, London

Provenance of the Ashtray

Thank you for all your bids, & very special thanks to Jonathan Shirley for his generous winning bid of £205.00, donated in full to Baby Lifeline

Jonathan has the last word

" I really enjoyed meeting you both on Monday, it would have been great to chat for longer but things were against us. The Ashtray is proudly displayed in our kitchen & my children are now of the opinion I am completely crackers! I enjoyed your reminiscences about the fort based stations particularly as they were my favourite listening as a young lad."

29/4/06 - Another very interesting & enjoyable article. The words, photos & audio clips bring it all back to life again....mmm, great days indeed. Many thanks for all the work you do in producing them - Dave Brown
