'M.V Johno' (1990)
'M.V Johno' sketch of the RNLI Rescue (January 1995)
The small coaster M.V 'Johno' was a regular visitor to Whitstable, owned by Harry who lived in Suffolk, she was often under the sole command of 2nd Mate Peter, he told tales of leaving her to her own devices under power whilst he took a shower & made supper!
Steaming into Whitstable in a northerly gale & heavy seas it's believed cargo hold hatchboards sprung, taking water M.V 'Johno' sank off the coast of Leysdown 3 miles north West of Whitstable. Both the Sheerness & Whitstable Lifeboats were launched the nimbler Inshore Whitstable Atlantic 21 reached the vessel first taking off the crew, the ship was later refloated & continued to visit our harbour
'M.V Johno' had been built in Germany in 1960/1 she started as the M.V 'Christine' until 1974 became the M.V 'Bandick' until 1992, finally the M.V 'Ahmed' in 1992 she's since been pensioned off & is now a Houseboat
